The plaster gauze is immersed in water and is ready to use in just seconds. It can be cut into smaller pieces or used directly from the roll. It can be applied to materials such as plastic, glass, wire mesh, cardboard, papier-mâché, etc. When applying to the skin, it’s advisable to use a layer of petroleum jelly.
How to use plaster gauze: Put on gloves, and place a plastic or oilcloth on the table. Start by cutting the gauze into smaller pieces, so it's ready for use before starting your project. Lay the wet plaster gauze over materials like metal, glass, styrofoam, or wire mesh, smoothing it out with your fingers – the more layers of gauze, the sturdier it becomes. Allow the plaster gauze to dry overnight. Once dry, you can paint and lacquer over it. Note: The wet plaster gauze softens cardboard and other absorbent materials, so cover cardboard with masking tape beforehand.
The possibilities with plaster gauze are incredibly vast, and we’d love to inspire your next plaster project:.
- Create your own candlesticks from plaster gauze and glass. Feel free to use some old jam jars, and use the finished candles to create a cozy atmosphere both indoors and outdoors.
- Make small unique bowls by layering, which can be coloured and used for jewellery, potpourri, and similar items.
- Shape masks directly on the skin, and decorate them with paint, embellishments, and glitter.
