What is petanque?

Petanque is a ball game that basically involves throwing your metal balls as close as possible to the small wooden ball. The wooden ball, also known as the pig, is used as the target ball and is thrown first before the game begins. The player or team that gets closest to the wooden ball wins.

The game in brief

• Play rock, paper, scissors to see who starts
• 1 vs 1 with 3 balls each, 2 vs 2 with 3 balls per team, and 3 vs 3 with 2 balls per person
• Throw the pig (the wooden ball) to decide where the petanque balls should be thrown
• Team 1 now throws 1 ball and tries to get as close to the pig as possible
• Team 2 and any team 3 then take their turns.
• After that, it’s always the team furthest from the pig that throws
• The team or person that first reaches 13 points wins
